2008

NOVEMBER 8-9 - PACIFIC COMBAT LIVING HISTORY PROGRAM

Three programs daily at 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Pacific Combat Zone. Tickets are $5.00 for Adults, $3 for Students and free for children under age 6 and World War II veterans..

This popular living history program uses objects from the museum's education collection to bring World War II to life for visitors as re-enactors demonstrate the weapons and discuss the tactics and strategy that won the war. The Pacific Combat Zone is located two blocks northeast of the museum complex on E. Austin Street between Elk and Lee.

NOVEMBER 11 - VETERANS DAY PROGRAM

11:00 a.m. Memorial Courtyard - General Leslie W. Bray, Jr., a World War II veteran, will be the keynote speaker on Veterans' Day. General Bray, now a resident of Fredericksburg, had a very long military career. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in January 1942. After serving in various locations, he became the first and only commander of the 16th Combat Cargo Squadron in June 1944 for the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations.

After the ware ended, General Bray served in a wide variety of positions and was promoted to the grade of Major General in 1970. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with oak leaf cluster and Air Force Commendation Medal. He has had a varied flying career of more than 4,000 flying hours and has qualified in jet fighter, bomber and transport aircraft.

DECEMBER 7 - PEARL HARBOR DAY

The National Museum of the Pacific War is honored to announce that the Pearl Harbor Survivors' Association has selected Fredericksburg as the site for its 67th National Convention in December. The group is expecting 500 of its members to be present, and they will attend the commemorative events at the National Museum of the Pacific War. Among the events open to the public are:

December 5 - 6:30 p.m. - lighted parade on Main Street with Pearl Harbor Survivors serving as the Honorary Marshals.

December 6 - Nearly 50 WWII aircraft will arrive and be on static display at the Fredericksburg Airport.

December 7 - 12:25 p.m. - Museum's Memorial Service begins in courtyard. Church bells will ring for 30 seconds, and jets will fly over Museum site in the Missing Man Formation.
